MK Dons held on to beat rivals AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Sky Bet League One on Saturday.
AFC Wimbledon was afterward got by substitute Marcus Forss straight back after 83 minutes, however it was not enough and they stay with no win at the relegation zone this season.
There has been a notable attendee in Stadium MK since Dele Alli – abandoned from their recent England squad because of an injury that has limited his start to the year – took advantage of a Saturday away to watch his side. And he’d have been delighted to see the scoring is opened by the other MK academy graduate.
Nombe, only 20, has been given his first league begin by Paul Tisdale after three objectives in cup competitions this season, including two in Stevenage at the Leasing.com Trophy in midweek, and that he also showed his potential after 10 minutes, latching onto a fine ball from Healey before holding off his marker and slotting house, through a ricochet off both posts.
AFC Wimbledon had third-choice goalkeeper Joe McDonnell involving the sticks, and once more he was defeated after 26 minutes. It had been because he made space for himself before driving a low shot Healey who took centre stage.
Wally Downes responded with a double switch, casting Max Sanders and Michael Folivi, however, it took to carve out a true opportunity. Luke O’Neill’s free-kick found its way to Paul Kalambayi at the rear pole, but his effort was kept out by Lee Nicholls. AFC Wimbledon pushed forward again quickly as an unmarked Kwesi Appiah was found by the ball six yards out, but he blazed over.
Downes’ third change did get them back. Forss scored his first goal for the club since arriving on loan climbing at the far post to go , but it was not enough to activate a rally.
A fine performance from the MK Dons frontman. He supplied a great aid for Nombe’s opener and then took his goal brilliantly, that had been his third of the year.
Both sides are back in Sky Bet League One act in 3pm next Saturday. MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon sponsor Shrewsbury head to Blackpool.
